The Community Affairs Committee Inc. (CAC), a Birmingham-based non-profit organization dedicated to community development and advocacy, successfully hosted its annual Unity MLK Breakfast on Monday, January 20, at the Birmingham Sheraton.
Attendees had the opportunity to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy and engage with the community through this inspiring gathering. HGD attorney Honza Prchal, a member of the CAC, delivered a moving reading and discussion of the Birmingham Pledge—a powerful commitment to eliminating racial prejudice and treating all individuals with dignity and respect. The Pledge, written by Birmingham attorney James E. Rotch in 1997, has become a cornerstone for anti-racism efforts worldwide. HGD partner Bill Bross also attended the breakfast, demonstrating the firm's support for the CAC's mission and initiatives.
In addition to the breakfast, organizers held a gun buyback event and a march in memory of Dr. King on Saturday, January 18. The morning march was at New Hope Baptist Church in West End. A second march took place in Fairfield later that afternoon. These events further emphasized the community's commitment to honoring Dr. King’s message of peace and unity.
The CAC, with its long-standing history since 1963, continues to champion racial harmony and address social issues in Birmingham. By collaborating with local stakeholders and government agencies, the organization remains steadfast in its mission to foster positive change within the community.
