MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Association for Justice (ALAJ), an association of attorneys dedicated to protecting the 7th Amendment right to a trial by jury, elected its new slate of officers at its annual convention held from June 16 – 18, 2022.
The following Alabama lawyers will serve as ALAJ’s officers for the next year:
- President – Erik Heninger of Heninger Garrison Davis (Birmingham)
- President-Elect – Wesley Laird of Laird, Baker & Blackstock (Opp)
- 1st Vice President – Ben Baker of Beasley Allen (Montgomery)
- 2nd Vice President – Clint Mountain of Mountain & Mountain (Tuscaloosa)
- Secretary – Lucy Tufts of Cunningham Bounds (Mobile)
- Treasurer – Derrick Mills of Marsh, Rickard & Bryan (Birmingham)
- Immediate Past President – Gina Coggin of The Coggin Firm (Gadsden)
“It’s the 7th Amendment, the right to a trial by jury, that serves as the backstop for all the other rights we as Americans and Alabamians hold dear. I’m proud to serve as our new president to uphold these rights and support good lawyers and good laws,” said Erik Heninger, newly elected President of the ALAJ.
“Erik brings a wealth of experience to the table. He is humble, smart, and a dedicated leader. We’re lucky to have him as the head of our organization for the coming year,” said Ginger Avery, CEO of ALAJ.
“I’m so proud of all the important work we were able to accomplish during my tenure, and Erik Heninger is the perfect person to carry that work forward to make sure every Alabama citizen and business has a level playing field in the court of law,” said outgoing president Gina Coggin.

ALAJ also elected its board of directors for 2022-2023. They are: Kira Fonteneau of Birmingham; Josh Hayes of Tuscaloosa; Phil DeFatta of Huntsville; Christina Crow of Union Springs; Morris Lilienthal of Huntsville; Dell Cross of Tuscaloosa; Nathan Harris of Birmingham; Bo Bruner of Birmingham; Doug Dellaccio of Birmingham; Ben Ford of Birmingham; Beau Darley of Montgomery; Kenny Cole of Huntsville, Chuck James of Montgomery; David Nomberg of Birmingham; Tom Sinclair of Birmingham; Greg Brockwell of Birmingham; Rebekah McKinney of Huntsville; and Prattville native Ginger Avery, who also serves as ALAJ’s chief executive officer.
“My mother taught me about trust – to earn the trust of those you work with and those for whom you work. Trust is the basis for all good relationships, and I can promise we’re working every day as an association to advocate for fair laws and support good attorneys so that everyone gets the representation to which they’re entitled,” said Derrick Mills, the newest ALAJ officer.
The Alabama Association for Justice (ALAJ) is a plaintiffs’ attorney organization that represents the needs of consumers and businesses seeking redress through the courts. Its members are dedicated to protecting the 7th Amendment and the right to a trial by jury. ALAJ’s mission is “good lawyers and good laws.”
