Brandy's tenure marked a year of remarkable achievements and meaningful contributions, further cementing her dedication to empowering women in the legal profession and supporting the broader community.

Reflecting on her year of service, Brandy remarked, "It was truly an honor to serve as chair of the WLS during our 30th Anniversary year and to play a small role in the history of the Women’s Section. It was an extremely busy year, and I’ve had a fabulous Board who has worked hard to make this year successful."

Highlights of Brandy Robertson’s Leadership

Community Impact and Service

Under Brandy’s guidance, WLS made a significant difference in the lives of countless individuals in the Birmingham area through service initiatives, including:

  • Packing 14 pallets of food, feeding over 840 families, with the Community Food Bank.
  • Participating in a Habitat for Humanity Build and serving lunch to women and children at First Light Shelter.
  • Organizing a Summer Snack Food Drive for children facing food insecurity and planning a Christmas toy event to bring holiday cheer to families in need.

Empowering Future Women Lawyers

Brandy championed outreach to law students through the Pathways to Success events at Cumberland School of Law and The University of Alabama School of Law. These events connected female law students with accomplished attorneys who shared their experiences and advice, fostering mentorship and professional growth.

Educational Opportunities

The WLS provided 6.5 hours of free Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits for its members, featuring impactful programming such as:

  • A Legislative Power Lunch with female leaders in Alabama’s Senate and House of Representatives.
  • A collaborative CLE with the Black Women Lawyers Association of Alabama, focusing on relationship-building and supporting diversity within the profession.
  • Panels led by federal judges on pro bono prisoner representation and discussions on fertility and reproductive healthcare law post-LePage ruling.
  • A financial empowerment event, Sip, Save, and Strategize, co-hosted with the Alabama Association for Justice Women’s Section.

Social and Networking Events

Brandy also supported professional camaraderie through events like Coffee with the Judges and multiple social gatherings organized by the WLS Social and Entertainment Committee.

Signature Events and Recognition

Brandy’s presidency included hosting the Miss Nina Miglionico Paving the Way Leadership Award Reception, held at HGD’s moot court room, honoring the late Judge Anne Lampkin Durward. This event was one of two major celebrations during the 30th Anniversary year, both fully funded through sponsorships totaling nearly $9,700.

Additionally, the WLS Recognitions Committee successfully nominated members for six different awards, showcasing the achievements of women attorneys.

A Legacy of Dedication and Achievement

During her tenure, Brandy presided over ten meetings, with the majority hosted at HGD, including the Annual Meeting. Her leadership not only strengthened the Women Lawyers Section but also fostered deeper connections within the judiciary and the legal community.

Brandy reflected on her experience, stating, "I am proud to say that while it was a ton of work, it was also incredibly rewarding. I’ve gotten to know so many of our members better and built strong relationships with members of our judiciary."
